Buuuuut, call me a dick, I can’t feel for the family with a SAHM making nearly $50k a year in Iowa.

Yeah, I wish he’d elaborated a little more on that, too. I’ve heard tales of women who left their jobs because childcare cost more than what they were making, but I don’t assume that was the case. If that’s true, tell me. Make that part of the story. If not, hey, you have a potential earner there. And if these women did have shitty jobs, it’s easier to get a better one when you’re employed than when you’re a SAHM whose last job was five years ago making minimum wage.

Even if you can’t afford childcare, there are part time and weekend jobs. Yeah, it’s hard and it sucks, but if your finances are so bad that you can’t make 900/week work, then maybe you gotta do what you gotta do.

And extra 200-300/week can go pretty far when times are hard.

Unfortunately, employers gotta do what they gotta do too, and far too often that means rabidly discriminating against mothers of young children.  ”What they gotta do” should read “be total assholes.”

Well, I don’t think they’re allowed to ask if you have kids BECAUSE there’s so much discrimination.
